Recombinant Human Type III Collagen

EV-COL-001

Enzovera Recombinant Human Type III Collagen is available in three molecular weight variants produced without animal-derived source material: EV-COL-001 (28.6 kDa, >90% purity, sponge form, 50 g and 100 g bags), EV-COL-002 (10.4 kDa, >90% purity, low-molecular-weight fragment, 50 g and 100 g bags), and EV-COL-003 (55.9 kDa, >90% purity, high-molecular-weight sponge, 50 g and 100 g bags). This range of molecular weights allows selection of the physicochemical profile best suited to the target application, spanning highly soluble cosmetic actives to structural tissue engineering scaffolds.

Biology of Type III collagen. Type III collagen (COL3A1 gene product) is a homotrimeric fibrillar collagen composed of three identical α1(III) chains wound into a right-handed triple helix. It is co-distributed with Type I collagen throughout the body but predominates in soft connective tissues including skin dermis, blood vessel walls, intestinal wall, and uterus. Type III collagen is particularly abundant in fetal skin and the early wound healing provisional matrix, constituting up to 30% of total collagen content before progressive replacement by Type I collagen during scar maturation. It plays essential roles in tissue elasticity, tensile strength of hollow organs, and vascular adventitia integrity. Loss-of-function mutations in COL3A1 cause Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type IV, marked by vascular fragility and tissue hyperextensibility, confirming the non-redundant structural importance of Type III collagen in the body.

Molecular weight variant selection. EV-COL-001 (28.6 kDa) balances aqueous solubility with retained triple-helix content, suitable for general cosmetic formulation and dermal applications. EV-COL-002 (10.4 kDa) is the highest-solubility, lowest-molecular-weight fragment with the greatest potential for transdermal uptake, preferred for serums and topical cosmetics where skin penetration depth is relevant. EV-COL-003 (55.9 kDa) is the highest molecular weight sponge, providing the most native-like fibrillar scaffold architecture suited to wound healing dressings, tissue engineering matrices, and 3D cell culture substrates where structural integrity takes precedence over solubility.

Recommended applications:

  • Cosmetic formulation: anti-aging serums, skin-plumping creams, and collagen-boosting topicals
  • Wound healing: collagen sponge wound dressings and dermal repair matrices
  • Tissue engineering: soft tissue and vascular construct scaffold fabrication
  • Dermal filler and injectable biomaterial development
  • Cell culture substrate: coating for fibroblast, keratinocyte, and vascular endothelial cell culture
  • Collagen biology research: receptor binding assays, triple-helix stability studies, and ECM interaction experiments
  • In vitro wound healing model substrate and scratch assay surface preparation
